A dire bushfire emergency has erupted in the suburban area of Ellenbrook, located in Perth, significantly endangering numerous homes and lives.
This intense blaze ignited just before 3 PM local time in a small stretch of bushland within Ellenbrook, situated approximately 30 kilometers to the northeast of Perth's city center. The fire is threatening an area that is densely populated with over 100 residences, all closely packed within a modern housing development.
Currently, there exists an emergency warning for residents situated within the boundaries defined by The Broadway, Galatea Pass, Farmaner Parkway, and Elmridge Parkway. "Individuals must evacuate immediately in a southerly direction," advised the Department of Fire and Emergency Services (DFES).
Dramatic aerial footage captured the scene, showcasing a cabana engulfed in flames within a backyard. Enormous clouds of smoke were reported billowing across the surrounding residential neighborhood.
Emergency crews have rushed to the location, bringing with them aerial resources to combat the fire. Fire trucks have been observed spraying water onto scorched earth adjacent to the fence lines of several homes.
While reports remain unverified, there are indications that some homes may have sustained damage.
Describing the chaos on the ground, local resident Bruce depicted the atmosphere in Ellenbrook as one of utter "mayhem."
"You can clearly see people attempting to flee the area, with many residents in a state of panic," he recounted during an interview with ABC Radio Perth. "Some individuals were even on their roofs, perilously close to the flames; overall, it’s quite chaotic."
Bruce also remarked on the rapid spread of the fire, noting that the flames were reaching heights that towered above nearby homes. "It's already jumped a couple of roads, moving eastward," he added.
