Remembering Eileen Egan: Beloved Lady of Dunmore and Claremorris (2026)

There is a profound truth that often goes unnoticed: the passing of a beloved individual leaves a lasting impact on all who knew them. Today, we remember Eileen Egan (née Heaney), whose gentle life spanned nearly a century, touching the hearts of many in her community. But here's where it gets controversial—what really makes a life memorable? Is it the milestones, or the quiet moments of kindness? Let's explore her story.

Eileen peacefully left this world in her 98th year on December 18th, 2025. She was surrounded by the love and care of close friends and an exceptional team at Central Park Nursing Home in Clonberne. Her life journey took her from Carrowkeelanahglass, Dunmore, County Galway, to Killeenrevagh, Scardaune, Claremorris, County Mayo, where she was deeply loved and respected.

Her passing leaves an undeniable void among her family and friends. She is survived by her devoted nephew-in-law, John Gleeson, and was cherished by her nephews and nieces—Joe, Frank, and Mary Kearney from Lackagh, as well as Mary, James, Josephine, Paddy, and John Higgins from Lissatava—and their respective families.

Eileen’s legacy endures through her loyal extended family networks. She is fondly remembered by the Gleeson family of Shanballymore, the Healy family of Gatestown, the Joyce family of Garryduff, the Donnellan family of Lavally, and the caring Egan family of Lissyconner. Her influence also extended to many friends, neighbors, and relations across different parts of her community.

Her life was one of love and sacrifice, but she was predeceased by her beloved husband Martin, her parents John and Ellen Heaney, her sisters Mary Teresa, Annie, Kathleen, and infant Philomena, along with brothers Paddy Joe, Mick, Gabe, and John Heaney. She also mourned the loss of her brothers-in-law Eddie and Johnny Egan and other extended family members.

May her gentle soul rest forever in peace.

In honoring her life, a viewing will be held at Glynn’s Funeral Home in Dunmore (H54NY61) on Friday, December 19th, from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. Following this, her remains will be taken to the Church of Our Lady and Saint Nicholas in Dunmore.

Her funeral Mass is scheduled for Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at the same church, with interment to follow in the local cemetery. For those unable to attend in person, her funeral Mass will be accessible online through the Dunmore parish website at http://www.dunmoreparish.com.
