The music world is already buzzing, but one of the biggest names might be sitting this year out! While the official Grammy Awards ceremony is still on the horizon, the pre-Grammy festivities have kicked off with a bang, showcasing a dazzling array of talent and anticipation.
The countdown to the 2026 Grammy Awards has officially begun! Even though host Trevor Noah won't be gracing the stage until February 1st, the music industry's elite have already started celebrating a year filled with groundbreaking music. The weekend has been a whirlwind of exclusive parties, offering ample opportunities for stars to mingle and toast to their achievements.
On January 29th, Warner Music Group hosted their much-anticipated annual pre-Grammy bash. This star-studded event featured a captivating performance by PinkPantheress and saw the likes of Benson Boone and Cara Delevingne in attendance, adding to the glamorous atmosphere.
Meanwhile, Spotify turned the spotlight on the future of music with its Best New Artist party. This event was a showcase for emerging talent, with Lola Young making a striking appearance with a brand-new, all-black hairstyle. Other nominees for Best New Artist, such as Alex Warren, were also present, alongside reality TV star Ariana Madix from Vanderpump Rules. Adding to the night's excitement, Amazon Music hosted its own celebration, welcoming artists like Shaboozey and the stars of the KPop group Demon Hunters.
Of course, the 68th annual Grammy Awards ceremony itself, held at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, will undoubtedly be the pinnacle of these celebrations. Scheduled to air live on CBS at 8 p.m. ET on February 1st and also available for streaming on Paramount+, the event promises to be a night to remember. Among the performers is Sabrina Carpenter, who is set to take the stage for her second consecutive year. She's nominated for an impressive six awards for her seventh studio album, "Man's Best Friend."
While Sabrina has become a familiar face at the music awards, she openly shared her surprise at her continued recognition. "I was nominated for the first time last year," she revealed in a December interview on Late Night. "So, I literally just got here. I wasn't expecting anything, and I created this album out of pure love, friendship, and inspiration." Upon receiving her six nominations, including a nod for Album of the Year, Sabrina confessed, "I was actually really, really shocked."
And this is the part most people miss... While many established artists are celebrating, this year also marks a significant milestone for several newcomers who are set to perform on the Grammy stage for the very first time. The nominees for Best New Artist – Alex Warren, Addison Rae, KATSEYE, Leon Thomas, Lola Young, Olivia Dean, sombr, and The Marías – will all be showcasing their talents at the highly anticipated event.
For Addison Rae, simply receiving a nomination was a cause for celebration in itself. "The odds were not looking great for me," she candidly shared in a December interview with the Los Angeles Times. "Then they said my name."
Leon Thomas spoke about the profound feeling of finally receiving recognition after dedicating over 10 years to his music career. "There were years I starved for this dream, so it's just nice to feel like I'm not crazy," the former Victorious star told People in a December interview. "It's nice to know that with proper marketing behind my music and with me even taking the time to develop myself as an artist and tighten up the things that were loose, all turned into real blessings."
But here's where it gets controversial... While the excitement for the Grammys is palpable, a notable absence from the nominee list has sparked considerable discussion: Taylor Swift. Despite releasing highly successful music within the eligibility period, Swift does not qualify for the 2026 Grammy Awards. This has led many to question the Grammy's eligibility rules and whether they truly reflect the current landscape of music consumption and artist reach. Is it fair that an artist with such a massive global impact might not be recognized by the academy due to technicalities?
